The valley of Vicdessos (750m elevation) is 70 km from Andorra and at the foot of the highest mountain in Ariège: the Montcalm, 3200m at its summit.

In summer and winter, you can enjoy numerous outdoor activities in the unspoilt nature of the Auzat-Vicdessos area:
- walking and hiking on more than 360 km of waymarked trails
- fishing; the Vicdessos valley is laced with rivers and streams and innumerable mountain lakes
- mushroom hunting: cèpes, girolles, morilles depending on the season
- rockclimbing at the practice rockface in Auzat
- via ferrata and "accro-branches" (tree climbing) at Vicdessos
- paragliding, canyoning, spelunking
- horseriding at the riding centre in Auzat
- mountain biking
For skiers there are several stations:
- Goulier-Neige at 5 km
Ax Bonascre: 40 km
For cross-country skiing and snowshoeing:
- The Etang de Lhers at 7 km
- the Plateau de Beille at 25 km
There are also numerous historical sites for the curious: Cathar castles, prehistoric caves, museums, (notably the Niaux cave, the Foix castle, the Prehistoric Park, etc)
